Carpet......

We got Braden a big boy captains bed with a matching dresser.  I was forced to clean out his room so that it was ready to go when the delivery guys came on Thursday.  I noticed some stains on his carpet before we moved in and decided this was a prime time to investigate.  I pulled up the carpet and pad.  The pad turned out to not be a pad at all but half an inch of pink foam.  The carpet has a multiple stains one being so large I have no idea what could have possibly made it.  Then I spotted the bugs.  Yes there were bugs under the carpet in Braden's room.   I freaked out and spent the rest of the afternoon gutting the upstairs.  The kids will not be allowed up there until we get new carpet.  Since the carpet is getting trashed I guess I will just have to finish removing the popcorn ceiling in all the rooms.  I will also be pulling out all the trim.  It is so old it actually crumbles.  Tobin wants a monkey/jungle room and Braden wants a wilderness theme with bears.  I see a lot of work in my future.  At least I will feel okay with letting the boys sleep upstairs once it is done.

Electricians Become Family

So here is how the last couple days has gone.  After not being able to fix the hot water heater Kevin got a new one to replace the old one.  It was free because our water heater has a lifetime warranty.  How is works around here is you get a giant 105 gallon tank that has a ton on insulation.  Then the Co-op has  load management control over it.  They turn it off from 10 am to 10 pm and you get to use the hot water that is there.  It pulls a lot of amps so they don't want to overload the system at peak times.  I hope we don't run out of hot water.  They decided to put a temporary bypass on it for the next couple of days to compensate for the last few that we didn't have hot water.  We need to catch up on a few things!!  All the guys at Gary's Electric in Rushmore are amazing.  Every time they come to fix one thing I have more for them to check out.  They never say we don't have time for that.  They walked in and checked out my air conditioning while they were doing the things that they were supposed to be fixing.   They have done over and above what an electrician should do.  The guys care about our safety and want to make sure the house doesn't burn down. They are flabbergasted about the wiring of the house and sometimes don't have all the answers.  Now back to the hot water heater.  Kevin installed it and we thought that the reason it wasn't starting was because it was during the time that the CO-OP turns it off.  When we woke up and still didn't have hot water we knew something else was wrong.  Lucky for the our electrician was coming to do the septic.  When he looked at it we discovered that the breaker box is marked wrong.  The cistern/well breaker that we had the dryer 220 wired to was actually the hot water heater!  So then I did not have hot water or a dryer.  My hero the electrician fixed the whole mess.  After he left I had septic, hot water and a working dryer.  They also finished cutting the limbs off the wires to my barn light and fixing my pole.   Today he told me he would keep my ticket open which means I have a running tab at the office!!!  SWEET!  I always wanted to have an electrician on tab.    On a different note I picked the color to paint my living room.  I am in love with a tile for my backsplash.

The Septic/Water Heater disaster

After the septic was put in it had to be hard wired or it would back up into our basement.  Our electrician came and put a temporary patch on it.  Had fun in Sioux Falls with my family and the boys came home exhausted.  Braden began vomiting that evening.  Put him in the shower to clean him up and realized there was no hot water.  Went to the basement to find out why and discovered the septic had backed up into the basement!  The septic guy came and discovered that the pipe he didn't like the look of when he inspected the work done by his crew is causing a blockage into the tank.  So I had a kid vomiting and couldn't use the water or toilets.  Every time  puked I had to run the bowl outside to the spicket to rinse it out.  I of course then could not wash the vomit filled blankets.  He came back the next morning to fix it.  We taught the boys how to go to the bathroom outside.  It was an adventure.   We still don't have any hot water.  The bottom heating element was burned up so we replaced it.  Kevin went to fill the heater back up and water started coming out of the top whole.  So now we have to wait until Monday to get  a hold of the COOP to replace or fix it because it at least has a lifetime warranty.  My sister came to the rescue and let me shower at her house.

Septic System

Today the new septic is going in.  The former owner of this house decided that he would drag his feet and wait it out.  This is because he knew that it would be a mess and he would have to have it cleaned up before we moved in.  They kept telling us the reason they are waiting is because they didn't want to rip up the ground.  They of course decided to do it when the ground is saturated so all of the big trucks are getting stuck.  Does anybody know what that does to the ground?  Anybody, Anybody.  It is now not only too muddy for my dogs it is also going to be hazardous for my kiddos.
